Original Art History Research
From 2013 - 2021 Briana Lyon produced 1000s of pages of original, privately commissioned Art History Research & Analysis. Acting as Expert Federal Witness, Analyst & Researcher for historically important artists to protect their legacies and support their previously undiscovered works.
Routinely examining fine artwork for signs of forgery, Lyon consulted with clients - and curators - from California to Lausanne, Switzerland, to analyze the risk of falsification in pieces they'd acquired (or planned to acquire). Lyon's specialty was in Morellian Analysis, or understanding the exacting and lyrical qualities of each artist's hand. She was often found researching the authenticity of works from artists like:
- Old Masters: Francisco de Goya, Diego Velazquez, Peter Brueghel, Johann Vermeer, etc.
- Impressionists: Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Van Gogh, Mary Cassatt, Alfred Sisley etc.
- Early Modern: Kazimir Malevich, Amedeo Modigliani, etc.
- American Modern: Robert Henri, Lawren Harris, Georgia O'Keefe, Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, etc.
- Modern/Contemporary: Willem de Kooning, Phillip Guston, Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat, etc.
Performing both in-person and remote examination in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver and occasionally the Eastern United States and Europe (Belfium, Paris). She is a registered researcher with the Getty Research Institute. Briana has studied art history since 2001. She has a degree from the University of British Columbia in art and world cultures and was mentored in forgery and authentication by the founder of Art Experts Inc., Mark Winter.
