The Broken Earth series started in 2010 as a 30’ long scroll painting of the Western Canadian mountainscape. It was ceremoniously dismantled and reconfigured in 2013 in a performance art series at the Banff Centre. That was Symbolic of the destruction and subsequent rebirth of nature during the process of resource extraction. This series contrasts fossil fuel and factory produced materials (acrylic paint and walmart cotton) with organic hand-produced ones (gouache, wood panel, hide glue and marble dust gesso).

The vision of Landscape. Broken Earth started as a Chinese Literati-style scroll painting that roughly depicted the landscape from Vancouver to Calgary. Following numerous public and outdoor exhibitions in and around the West Kootenay the oversize piece was taken into the studio at the prestigious Banff Centre in Banff, AB. Where it was completed, documented and ripped apart in an act of performance art. Using painstakingly crafted natural art materials, the painting was reconfigured into a series of 12 large panel mounted pieces which were subsequently shown across California (San Jose, Costa Mesa, Los Angeles). Today 9 pieces from the series remain intact.
